¡Aplauda! José Donaciano Jiménez Barrera

by Idalia Rosa-Martinez
Sabor Hampton Roads extends a great applause (¡Aplauda!) to José Donaciano Jiménez Barrera of Newport News. No English language barrier stopped Barrera from becoming a role model to some in Hampton Roads. This special individual marks June 14, 2009 as his first anniversary as volunteer Spanish Conversation Instructor of adult students at First Baptist Church of Newport News.
His students, lead by Patricia Buck, express solemn gratitude to Sr. Barrera’ committed volunteerism. From Apizaco, Tlaxcala Mexico and only in the USA two years, Barrera did not hesitate to take on the task of volunteer Spanish instructor amidst other primary responsibilities of two full time jobs and support of a family in Mexico.
The class describes him as gentle, full of patience, and compassionate. Many classroom assignments have opened the hearts of the students to this hardworking family man. With Barrera’ limited English language and his student’s limited Spanish admiration and commitment deepens at every Sunday Spanish class at First Baptist Church.
¡Aplauda! Celebrates, along with his students, recognition of José Donaciano Jiménez Barrera as dedicated volunteer.
