Where to get Birth Control
by Tanya Sanchez
November 2007
Hello all, in this edition of Tanya Talks we are going to do something a little different. Sabor HR will be collaborating with Planned Parenthood to post some important information about their services on the site. It is my privilege to assist in introducing this wonderful resource that will soon be available on Health section of our site. Here is a sneak peak into the array of information that will be at your fingertips. Included you will find a Q&A segment in true “Tanya Talks” fashion. Please feel free to continue to send in your questions. In the upcoming Tanya Talks, I will be addressing a woman who feels her closest friendship is in jeopardy because of a man…
Dear Tanya,
I am new to the area, and am looking for a place to find affordable birth control. I do not have insurance and do not currently have a social security number, so I am finding that it’s very difficult to be seen at a health center. Do you have any ideas for me?

Dear Senorita X,
It is always hard to start over in a new area, especially when you are in need of medical care. I would highly suggest making an appointment at your closest Planned Parenthood health center. They are a local organization that provides high-quality, affordable reproductive health and family planning services to women in Hampton Roads. Besides providing all forms of affordable birth control, they also offer cancer screening, breast exams, pregnancy testing and all-options counseling, prenatal care, the HPV vaccine and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. If you are not comfortable with a full exam at this time, you can receive birth control without the exam; you will just need to make an appointment so a medical professional can discuss the different methods and you can determine what would work best for you.
Planned Parenthood has Spanish-speaking staff members at each of their three centers, located in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Hampton. They do not require insurance, but will accept most forms as well as Medicaid, if you do end up subscribing to one of these plans at some point. They care only about your health, not your documentation.
To contact the closest center:
Virginia Beach-473-8116
Norfolk-624-9224
Hampton-826-2079
Sincerely,
Tanya-Sabor HR
